Forensic Science Agency (EPC Project)

Architecture, Interior, Landscape
Government of Punjab
Completed

The site is located on Old Multan Road, near Thokar Niaz Baig Lahore. The Location is easily accessible from a number of routes which intersect at Thokar Niaz Baig. A major advantage is the proximity of the Motorway, which ensures rapid connection to the Islamabad and other cities; the other is Canal road which lead straight to the heart of Business District in Lahore. These linkages make the project highly accessible. The growth impetus of the city of Lahore is toward the South West the location capitalizes on this trend. Currently the site is located in a low rise, low density area and can easily achieve landmark status.

DESIGN METHODOLOGY
‘There is not one universally correct plan for forensic laboratory design. Design will vary with each laboratory’s specific needs.’
Functional requirements of specific scientific disciplines, equipment, and instrumentation are a few of the variables that generate space, dimension, and adjacency requirements that impact the overall design Whole building has been designed on an office module in terms of its plan, and elevation as well.

Optimum window sizes are designed to have enough windows light. Deep windows will ensure glaze free luminance in the internal spaces. In addition to this, structural capability for two more floors has already been designed keeping in mind the increasing needs.

PROJECT INFORMATION
The project has an area of 173600 Sft. (Gross Floor Area) with a building efficiency of 78%. It comprises of 5 floors. Basement is allocated for parking, services, mechanical & electrical rooms, shooting range, freezers & coolers etc.

Ground Floor : Right wing is dedicated for administration departments & left wing for FTM section (Fire tool area), latent finger prints & crime/death scene. Admin Section is having a large board room to host larger conferences & multipurpose activity.

First Floor:
Right wing is dedicated for DNA section, drug chemistry & trace chemistry.

Second Floor:
Right wing is designed to host audio video facilities, question documents & histology, left wing includes toxicology & trace chemistry.

Third Floor:
Right wing is dedicated for long term storage & prayer area and left wing with complete training & mock activities including cafeteria.

TRAFFIC MOVEMENT
Vehicular inflow & outflow to the site has been restricted by proposing two separate gates for entry and exit and due to security reasons. Vehicular entry is from the south side and exist from the east. Easy “drop off lane” is created in front of the building. Care has been taken to keep minimum interference between the vehicular & pedestrians movement within the site. Road is wrapped all around the building for the convenience of Fire Engines and other emergency vehicles, which is an imperative feature of such buildings. Wider back lane is for the convenience of large equipment for MEP.

SITE PLANNING & ACCESS
The site layout with varying dimensions forced us to place the super structure of the building at the back side of the site where we can achieve maximum area to accommodate such a large scale building. Various factors also involved in the placement of the proposed building which includes sufficient distance from the road to avoid dust and noise. Security hazards are also taken into consideration to prevent terrorist activities.
